Questions Asked by Insurers before Selling an Umbrella Policy

Umbrella insurance may give you some additional liability protection that is above and beyond your own current insurance. Well, below you can see our list of questions that are typically asked when people are trying to obtain such extra protection for themselves. Also, we have included some information which you will need to gather to complete your new umbrella insurance quote with the chosen insurance agent.
So, first of all here is what personal info you should provide to get a policy:
  • First Name, Sex, Marital Status, Birth Date, State Licensed, Years Licensed and Occupation of all the drivers that live in your household.
  • Accident and Violation information for the last five years of all the drivers that live in your household.
  • Full description of all the property you currently own including: Auto, Watercraft, Home, Recreational Vehicles (or RVs), Land, Rental Units and Motorcycles.
  • Exhaustive information about the current insurance company including: Claims and Losses in the past five years and Expiration Dates.
  • The liability limit which you are requesting that is typically no more than one to five million.
And now we can move on to the questions that are typically asked by insurance agents when purchasing an umbrella liability policy:
1) Besides your automobile, do you have any other motorized vehicles such as mopeds or motorcycles?
2) Do any of the household drivers have physical or mental impairments?
3) Are you involved in the farming business?
4) Do you currently have any employees working at your residence?
5) Are you taking care of any property that does not belong to you and exceeds a thousand dollars in price?
